Daniel Craig's Favourite Things

The James Bond actor and star of The Golden Compass, 39, loves Steven Spielberg, Sienna Miller and Cannes...

Switzerland
When I'm being flown to the top of a Swiss mountain by helicopter, it feels like I have the best job in the world. I once spent a week sliding down a glacier on my backside and it was actually a fantastic experience!

Steven Spielberg
Steven Spielberg's work has always inspired me, so understandably I couldn't wait to start working with him on Munich. His back catalogue of films is simply amazing.

Converse Shoes
Put me in a pair of Converse All Star baseball boots and I'm happy. They're great for working out in. Of course, they come in everycolour and pattern imaginable these days. but simple cream ones will always be my favourites.

Sienna Miller
Even before I worked with Sienna on Layer Cake, I knew that she was an actress who could really go far. Happily, when we were together, I didn't try to play the elder statesman and impose any of my acting knowledge on her!

JRR Tolkien
When I was a child, I grew up rteading JRR Tolkien's books, and even today I still occasionally read Lord Of The Rings. It's one of those books that I can revisit because it's such a brilliant, complex story.

The Electric cinema
The Electric cinema in London's Notting Hill is a lovely old building - a classic design. It was great to hold the premiere for Layer Cake there because I lived in the area and got to go home early after the film!

Cannes
Cannes is one of my favourite cities, and La Croisette has a particularly special atmosphere when the annual film festival is taking place. It's full of character. and I love some of the magnificent old hotels like the Hotel Martinez.

Polar bears
I've always been wowed by polar bears - and now I fell I have a special connection with them, as in The Golden Compass we filmed a scene that was supposed to be set in the North Pole and we were chased around by Samoyed bandits.
